Oct 6-7 it is..... 12 Years, 2 Months ago

It should be when most people can make it. You stand a better chance of good weather if it's the first weekend anyway.

I will try to make it if it is the first weekend in October. I am leaving for Canada mid month so after the first it would be tough.

Reason I would prefer first weekend is that I would like to start planning a serious steelhead expedition into Oregon and possibly Washington in October.

Only a wish at this point. Two more years before I can swing it. Would like to though.

I've never fished Davis.
Anyone have suggestions for flies (remember, it's October)????
I usually just pilfer flies from UC's box, but I should probably tie some up as a contingency.
And what about gear? Floating lines, sinking lines?

"Rivers course through my dreams, rivers cold and fast, rivers well-known and rivers nameless, rivers that seem like ribbons of blue water twisting through wide valleys, narrow rivers folded in layers of darkening shadow, rivers that have eroded down deep in a mountain's belly, sculpted the land, peeled back the planet's history exposing the texture of time itself."
— Harry Middleton (Rivers of Memory)
"Each night as I haul myself onto the back of county garbage truck no. 2, there is a familiar wind, some thread of moonglow or starlight, a splatter of dark rain on my skin, something that stirs my memory, and again, if even for a brief moment, I am on some mountain river, some stretch of bright water, full of possibilities, including the possibility of trout, perhaps one that, when hooked, will haul me in and out of time, in and out of life's mysterious and frightening, wondrous and incomprehensible continuum, even to the edges of the universe." -- Harry Middleton

I forgot what we used in the fall. snail patterns? wiggle tials in rust or cinnamon are always good, Look for points on windy days and fish windward side with a floating line. Out in the weeds, a floating or intermediate, depending on water depth and weed depth. look for channels as well.
